Hand-Blown Glass Vase by Josh Bernbaum
Hand-Blown Glass Vase by Josh Bernbaum
Josh’s process involves mixing and melting raw materials in a glass furnace. He creates his pigments from scratch, offering a wealth of creative options from designs, hues, and effects.
Nowadays, many glass artists rely on adding pre-made colors to clear glass.
In these pieces, Josh has utilized phosphorous as one of the ingredients in the mixes which is responsible for the opacity and cloudiness in certain areas of the finished work. Using different kinds of raw materials in different amounts ultimately determines the look of the cooled glass after it is done being blown. This gives the maker infinite control over that outcome.
Due to their handmade nature, these vases are each one of a kind.
Josh creates these beautiful works at his studio in West Brattleboro.
